Have you ever watched a movie with Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightley, or the infamous Angelia Jolie and wondered how they have such amazing lips? You may have also wondered how you can get lips like theirs without going under the knife like many of today’s celebrities. For starter, lets be honest with ourselves. Some are born with bigger, plumper juicier lips than others and that’s just the cold hard truth. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t flaunt what you got. With a little simple “know how” almost any pair of lips have the potential to attract some attention. In the following we will discuss how to take care of lips properly so they can live up to their full potential.
First it’s best to realize that the lips are one of the most delicate parts of the body and as such need special attention in order to remain healthy. This will require daily maintenance and care. Just like any other part of your skin your lips also shed dead skin. Gross, I know! This will, of course, vary from person to person depending on age, health and genetics. If you are someone that wakes up to dry flakey lips it is a good idea to use a soft bristle toothbrush each morning and night perhaps while brushing your teeth to also brush off your lips. Use a circular motion and don’t press too hard or it can leave your lips feeling sore. Afterwards, either rub in some thick moisturizer if your getting ready for bed or lip balm in the morning to help re-obtain and seal in moisture.
One big reason for having dry lips could be habitual licking and touching. This means keep your hands off and your tongue in (huh, it seems like I have told that to someone before….). Many times people don’t realize they are licking and touching their lips constantly until it is brought to their attention. Another reason could also be general health and diet. Make sure and maintain a healthy life style by working out frequently and watching what you eat. Some food groups that are good for the lips are vegetables, seafood, beans and grains. These, of course, should be eaten as much in their natural state as possible. In other words, no processed foods. Also, a big part of this is to drink plenty of fluids. If your lips are dry it many times is just an outward reaction to how dry the inside is. Make sure to drink plenty of water and not to substitute fluid consumption with sugary drinks, as these do not hydrate well or not at all.
Know that we have taken care of our dry lips it is time to apply some product to get that movie star look. Apply a thin layer of lipstick of the color of your choosing. (Keep in mind that usually neutral tones work best.) After, remove excess by kissing the back of your hand. This is better then using something like tissue that will most likely stick and leave white pieces of paper all over your mouth. Afterwards, use a thick coat of lip-gloss. This will give it a beautiful shine that is to die for. Finding the right type of lip balm, lipstick and gloss can sometimes be tricky and may require a little bit of trial and error.
